The chart below shows the total number of minutes in billion of telephone calls in the UK divided into three categories from 1995 2002

The bar chart below illustrates the changes in the total time spent on three different kinds of phone calls in the UK over the period of 1995-2002.

Originally, in 1995, the British public talked over 70 billion minutes on local-fixed lines, almost a 40 on national & international and a mere one billion using mobile phones. The usage of local lines increased, reaching its maximum of 90 billion minutes in 1999. After that, it finished the period with a bit more than 70 billion minutes as it was in the beginning of the period.

Meanwhile, the mobile and national & international dialing were gaining more popularity each year. Thus, the time spent on national & international was rising gradually and ended the period up with a total time of 61 billion minutes in 2002. Although mobile phones were not used greatly at first, they obtained a modest 12 billion minutes and then grew up rapidly finishing the period with 44 billion minutes.

Overall, the usage of both mobile and national & international lines expanded significantly over the period, but local lines were still more popular.
