From the data in the diagrams we can see that processed meat pies contain vegetables like carrots, potatoes and peas in addition to meat. Prior to production, the ingredients are delivered to the factory. Vegetables are delivered up to 2 months before being used in production and kept in storage, whilst meat used in pies is delivered up to 2 weeks beforehand, and is kept refrigerated until use.
Before inclusion in the meat pie, potatoes are washed and prepared, then boiled and left to cool until use. Meanwhile, meat that has previously been defrosted, is similarly prepared. First, the meat is seasoned with salt and pepper. Excess fat is then removed and the meat is cut into small pieces.
Once the meat has passed a quality inspection control, the prepared meat is placed in microwaveable, plastic pie containers by factory workers on an assembly line. Pre-planned portions of peas and carrots are then added to the pie, followed by a portion of gravy. Finally, a layer of boiled potatoes is added on top. Assembly line workers next wrap the finished pie which is then frozen and stored in the factory or dispatched immediately.
