Describe the information below and discuss the implications for dental health.

The line graph illustrates the changing pattern of acidity in the mouth which cause danger in tooth health at time after in-taking three different types of sugar – fruit sugar, cane sugar and honey. Overall, cane sugar causes pH level to increase significantly within a short period of time and also remain in tooth-decaying level for an extended time.

As seen from the data, starting from the neutral pH value (7), pH value in the mouth plateaus to just 2 within 5 minutes prior to eating the cane sugar. Its figure experiences a gentle climb in the next half an hour to reach 5.5, acid level which tooth decay is unlikely, followed by a sharp increase to hit the apex at 7 after 40 minutes. Likewise, the pH change due to fruit sugar witnesses a similar pattern, where pH level rises from the low of 4.5 to 5.5 and finally to 7 after 5 minutes, 20 minutes and 35 minutes respectively.

Evidently, a completely different pattern can be seen in the change of acidity level because of honey. Sliding from pH level of 7 from the moment to eat honey, the figure stays at just below 5 for five minutes and starts to increase after 10 minutes. Surprisingly, the figure meets the neutral value within 15 minutes and levels off at 7 after 25 minutes.

All in all, while cane sugar causes higher tendency in tooth decay, it is much less probable for suffering from tooth problems by eating honey.
