On hearing the word assessment, a shivering is felt in the entire body. In our current education system, written examination is the sole entity of assessment. In my opinion, written examination along with practical examination should be used as assessment instead of the former alone.

Written assessment is the way to determine the effectiveness of lessons taught in school. It helps student to communicate their ideas, learning and strengthen them to face the adversaries in future. It also helps teacher understand the shortcomings of students and subsequently provide feedback to them.

Sometime the written assessment doesn’t fulfill the purpose it is designed for. If a student falls ill on the day of exam, he may not be able to perform up to his potential. Also, written examination does not cover the entire syllabus. Due to time constraint, student with slow writing speed will not be able to convey his answers and ideas effectively, thus leading to frustration and stress.

Written assessment has shortcomings which need to be fixed and practical examination should be promoted to fill the shortcomings of written assessment. With practical assessment students can learn practical implementation of their learning in school, thus applying them to solve real world problems.
