As a result, although the figure for consumption was consistently higher, the difference between them was marginal.
However, the next 25 years witnessed a significant increase regarding this gap because the demand for energy grew to exceed production, so energy imports needed to bridge it. In detail, the amount of energy consumed went up to roughly 90 units, whereas that produced rose to only nearly 70 units.
Estimates up to 2025 demonstrate that this trend is likely to continue, with a more high-distance gap between them. To specify, by 2025, it is forecast that the consumption of energy will reach 140 units, while the production will hit only 90 units.
