Overall, it can be seen that there was an upward trend in the budget for buying books in all examined nations. Furthermore, citizen in Germany invested the biggest amount of money in books during a period of 20 years.
In terms of Germany and France, in 1995, books accounted for a huge fraction in customers' expenditure, with 80 million and nearly 55 million respectively. Despite significant fluctuations in 1999 and 2003, Germany and France still stood at the leading positions in the investment in books with 95 million for the former and 75 million for the latter.
Regarding the two remaining countries, at the beginning of the period, the amount of money spent on books were relatively lower in comparison with Germany and France. To be specific, Italian allocated 50 million to purchasing books, while people living in Australia only spent 30 million for the same purpose. Over a 2-decade period, the year 2005 witnessed the sharp increase in the Australia's budget for books, approximately twice as much as the initial figure, reaching a peak at about 70 million. In contrast, the figure for Italy fluctuated at 52 million from 1995 to 1999 before a steady rise at 60 million in 2005.
