The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the number of products moved in the UK from 1974 to 2002 using various means of delivery, namely, road, water, rail, and pipeline. Units are measured in million tonnes.

Overall, the amount of goods delivered showed an upward trend with some fluctuations in between the said periods. At the start, products transported is estimated at about 160 million tonnes. Over time, it has gradually increased and at the end of the period, it has reached a maximum of about 220 million tonnes.

With respect to the mode of transport, the majority of products are moved by means of road and has remained the most preferred method over the entire time. Water and rail shared the second spot at the start of the period, but, delivery through water progressively climbed up in time while rail went the opposite direction, gradually losing popularity but eventually peaked at the end of the period. Pipeline, however, remained the least favorite among the four but has gradually risen over the years and nearly quadrupled the amount it transported at the end of the period.

In summary, the number of goods transported in the UK has increased dramatically over the years with most products delivered via road. However, other modes of delivery such as water, rail, and pipeline are slowly gaining popularity over time.
