Overall , it is clear that German people spent significantly more money than people in the other countries in term of books. Moreover , all four countries witnessed a rise in expenditure of this item throughout the 10-year period.
While Germans were the highest overall spenders , with an itial point of 80 million dollars on books in 1995 , the figure of Austria was significantly lower , at only about 30 millions dollars. However, the gap in spending between these two countries narrowed as the expenditure on books in Austria increased considerably , reaching a peak of slightly above 6 million dollars in the final year . Despite some fluctuations , the amount of money spent on books in German increased and finished at roughly 95 millions dollars throughout 10 years
The spending figures on books in Italy and France , which accounted for 50 and about 55 million dollars respectively in 1995
, followed a similiar fluctuating upward trend over the period. By the year 2005 , the amount of money spent on books in France reached a highest point of around 75 millions dollar , 8 millions higher than that of Italy.
