The graphs show the changes in the UK industry steel between 1970 and 2000. (million tonnes vs thousand)
The line graph illustrates the changes in the value of the steel industry in the UK while the second graph depicts the employment circumstances of the industry from 1970 to 2000. Overall, the total demand of steel decreased regardless of the import sector and the number of workers in that industry also dropped.
In terms of the line graph, the total steel demand had the highest value at 200,000 million tonnes in 1970, followed by steel production with 170,000. In the next twenty years, both sectors witnessed a half decline and eventually finished at 100,000 and 80.000 respectively. Besides, the steel import stood at 0 in 1970 and can be seen a rapid growth in 1990 with 30,000 before increasing gradually until reached a peak at 70,000 in 2000.
Concerning the second graph, the number of employment started at 50,000 thousand in 1970 and this was the highest number of the data in the whole given period. In the next ten years, the figure reduced by exactly 10,000 before experiencing significantly to just under a half in 1990 at 20,000. And then the data decrease gradually in the last given period at 18,000.
