International migration in UK
A glance at the provided graph and bar chart reveals information about UK immigration, emigration and net migration between 1999 and 2008.
It is obvious that both immigration and emigration rates rose over the period shown, but the figures for immigration are noticeably higher. Meanwhile, net migration followed a volatile pattern.
In 1999, the number of people who came to live in UK stood at over 450,000, whereas the emigration rate is just nearly 300000. From 1999 to 2004 , the figures for emigration was seen a slight change from 300000 to 350000, while the number of immigrants increased by nearly 150000. After that, the figure for emigration increased gradually to 400000 in 2006 before suddenly falling to nearly 320000 and reaching its peak with over 400000 at the end of period. At the same time, the immigration rate was seen a fluctuation and remained in 2008.
At the begin of the period, the figure for net migration was over 150,000 and remain at the similar level before reaching their peak in 2004, at nearly 250000. From 2004 to 2008, the net migration rates has seen a gradual decrease by approximately 100000.
