The line chart compares the UK steel production and demand while the second chart illustrates the figure for employed workers in the UK steel industry in 2000.

Overall, the amount of steel produced and actual demanded in the UK and the number of employees followed a downward trend. December's mark the point at which the amount of steel demanded overtook that of steel production.

According to the first graph, the UK produced 4000 million tonnes of steel, twice as much as the amount of actual demand, at only 2000. Over the next 7 months, the production remained unchangeable and then showed a fluctuation, falling to around 850 trillion tonnes. In the meantime, the period from January and August witnessed a wild fluctuation in the UK's need for steel and reach the bottom around November. In December, the demand for steel made a steady recovery of 2000 million tonnes.

From the second graph, initiating at 5000 trillion tonnes, the figure for employed workers plunged to 3000, 000 after increasing to around 5600 thousand in February. Then, the number of workers who were hired experienced a number of variations till August. However, there was a gradual decline to 1000 thousand people in the figure for employees by the end of the year.
