The pie chart gives the most important reasons which were accounted for the global land degradation and the table describes the percentage of affected land by those causes in three regions America, Europe and Oceania during the 1990s.
Overall, three main reasons were overgrazing, cutting down forests, and over-cultivation and the region which had seriously destroyed land was Europe.
Regarding the pie chart, overgrazing was responsible for 35% of poor land productivity, followed by deforestation and exceeded agriculture, with the proportion 30% and 28% respectively. Along with those reasons, there was a small percentage of other causes took up 7%.
According to the data from the table, North America was the region which had the least negative effects from degradation, with 0.2% deforestation, 3.3% over-cultivation and 1.5% overgrazing. However, 23% of land in Europe -the largest data, explained for 9.8% destroyed forest, 7.7% improper growing, and 5.5% over-farming. In the Oceania region, there was 13% of total land degraded, and over-grazing contributed to 11.3%, whereas no impact of over-cultivation in this area.
