The pie chart compares the average household spending in Japan and Malaysia in terms of five important categories in 2010.

As can be seen from the chart that the households in both countries spent the largest percentage of their budget on housing, transport, and other goods and services. While the least expenditure was recorded in health care.

The highest proportion of income in Japan is used for transport at 29%, which is slightly higher than that in Malaysia. In contrast, spending on housing in Malaysia households came top of the list with 34%. This was more than in Japan.

Both countries required similar amounts of their budget for food at 24% and 27% for Japan and Malaysia respectively. Expenditure on Transport in Japan accounted for 20% of the total expenditure, which was double that for Malaysia. Meanwhile, the lowest expense for both countries was allocated for health care. In Japan, this represented 6% of the total expenditure, while Malaysia households spent 3%.
