The chart below gives information about the most common sports played in New Zealand in 2002.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The Bar chart illustrates the various type of sports like Cricket, Athletic, Martial Arts, Basketball, Swimming etc played by boys and girls in New Zealand during 2002. Data is measured in terms of percentage.

During 2002, it is very clear that most favorite sport among the sport persons was swimming whereas the least favorite sport was Athletics.

One of the most played sports by Boys during 2002 in New Zealand was soccer with participation of nearly 25% while only 5% girls participated in the same. Following that Boys were also crossed the girls in cricket and martial arts with significant difference. In Basketball and Tennis, Boys were just above the girls with minimal margin of 2-3%.

On the other hand, the sport in which numbers of girls were higher than boys was Athletics and Netball. Netball was played by almost above one fourth of total girls. While only 1% of total boys had participated in the same. Swimming was also second highest sport played by girls with around 23% in 2002.

Apart from all these categories, people participated in all other sports were almost quarter of all participants. Here Boys again left girls behind in terms of participation.
