There are several compelling reasons as to why more foreign visitors than the locals pay more visits to museums and history-related places. First and foremost, as visitors voyage to far-flung destinations with a giant chasm in culture from their native countries, they often have a sense of curiosity about the local history. Thus, they feel a strong incentive to discover these locations. It is true that foreigners really incline to gain insights into the destination country, via visiting war relics and historical places, while the locals are well-acquainted with the history of their cities. The second justification is that foreigners are more willing to pay the admission fees. To be more precise, many well-known historical sites do not come cheap and require a substantial amount of entrance fee, which is more affordable for visitors from other countries than some underprivileged locals in developing nations.
In order to resurrect the interest of the local people in coming to these places, several workable actions could be adopted. One approach is to organize varied hands-on activities, which may incorporate art performances in order to arouse the curiosity of the native citizens. Organizers should invite prominent figures to increase the coverage of such events. Through these forms of active activities, people’s awareness about preserving the cultural heritages will be raised and cultivate their altruism. Besides, the local authorities should give the visit gratis or put in effect subsidies for the entrance fee to local residents. As a result, they will feel less burdened by their financial strain and can afford a visit to these sites.
In conclusion, while the foreigners’ enthusiasm for museums and historical spots are apparent, proper measures can be adopted to awaken local inhabitants’ interest in those places.
