4-Day WorkweekThe popular 5-day workweek has long been a staple in U.S. business. With employees working 8 hours a day for a total of 40 hours a week, it has been seen as a model of efficiency. However, some companies and government agencies have begun co

The article states that reducing working days to four days per week will be more useful for employers and employees , and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that there are few benefits from reducing the working days, but cutting a working day has more disadvantages than advantages. The speaker has different opinion and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading claims that reducing working days will be more economic for the workers, due to the fact that they will minimize driving, and they will save the money used to buy gas. The professor refutes this by explaining that most workers drive an average of 30 miles to reach their work, that means they spend about 20 dollars per day for buying gas. Total saving is 800 dollars per year , which is a small saving that does not worth the changing in working days.

Second, the article posits that working four days per week will reduce the expense of operation a business, by using less electricity, manpower. However, the professor explains that cutting one working day will result in loss of income by 20%. He states that nobody likes to come to the facilities late after normal working hours, thus adding two working hours will not be a good idea.

Third, the reading says that employee could spend an extra day with their family, and they will be happier and satisfied. Also they will be more relaxed and energetic at work. The professor opposes this point by saying that workers can not spend enough time with their family during the week, because they will come home late. Moreover, they will spend more money on babysitting and schools.
