Both the reading and the lecture try to discuss Agnostids' behaviors and foods. As it was mentioned in the reading, Agnostids were a group of marine animals known as the primitive arthopods-relative of modern-day insects. While the reading passage states three different theories about their life, the speaker finds all there ideas dubious and brings some evidence to refute them all.
First, the reading argues that these creatures may have been good swimmers due to the fact that some kinds of primitive anthropods were able to swim strongly. As a result, they may had fed on a plenty of small organisms in the ancient ocean that were smaller than their own size. On the other hand, the professor plays up the idea that hunters need to have good, precise eyes owing to the truth that vision is an important characteristic that is necessary for hunting a prey, while these animals' eyes were poorly developed, and some types of them were fairly blind. Also, they did not have any other organ in their body to rely on it for hunting, according to the fossil records, so this idea is not convincing.

Furthermore, the author holds the view that they may be seafloor Dwellers because there are some example of their primitive anthropods that lived this way. They may had fed on bacteria or other dead organisms on the oceanfloor. In contrast, the speaker brings up the idea that seafloor Dwellers are usually slow creatures and cannot move fast, but these animals were able to move quickly due to their widespread fossl records that were occupied in diverse regions.
Last but not least, the reading passage asserts the opinion that Agnostids were parasities, which relied on other larger organism , since many modern-day anthropods live as parasities such as mites and ticks. Conversely, the speaker dismisses this idea due to the fact that these parasities are usually not large populations. If their population becomes large, they may kill the organisms that are feeding on them. Evidence found in the oceans reveals the fact that agnostids were very large populations, and vast amount of their fossils were found. This fact shows they were not parasites.
