The reading passage claims that as a result of a massive forest fire in Yellowstone which cuased alot of destruction, many people demanded to change the "let it burn" policy with abolishing forest fires as soon as possile. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
The author argues that hige forest fires like Yellowsotne can threat and damage the trees and other vegetation in that area. Conversely, The lectuer brings up the idea that forest fires actually can be helpful. She believes that this phenomenon creat new opportunities for new plants to grow up and also some seeds need very high tempreture to grow which forest fires can provide that.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that wildfire are harmed by the forest fires. For instance, smaller animals can not escape and probably die in that situation. On the contrary, the speaker dissmisses this issue due to the fact that in the 1988, after the forest fires, the wildfire recovered stronger, the food chain formed more consistent and stable and that event created an environment which allowed new animals to emerge that were unable to live before that.
Finally, the reading asserts that wildfire damaged the local aconomy since the park was a tourist attraction and after the forest fires, the tourist numbers were increadibly decreased. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that those kind of forest fires ,which continued for two months, are not happening every year. many factors in that specific year contributed to this phenomenon such as low rainfall, dry weather and other climate reasons. So she believes that rare forest fires can not affect the local economy greatly.
