TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The lecture and paragraph are discussing about the policy of working in four-day a week. The paragraph is displaying the pros of the four day policy while the lecture is casting doubt on it.
Discussing about the loss and benefits to the company with the four day week policy, the paragraph shows that this policy will not affect cost to the company as they are reducing pay from 100% to 80% and fifth day is being compensated by the reduction in pay of the four day employee and quality of the work will increase. Whereas lecture goes into depth of the pay structure which comprises medical allowance which has to be given separately for each employee. This will increase additional cost to the company and new employees need training which will augment the cost to the company. Additional employees require space and separate computers to work which will lead infrastructural cost to the company. Apart from these, company has to invest more in hiring process because hiring of new employees are costly in compare to the existing ones.
About the economic benefits of the country, paragraph shows that this policy will reduce the unemployment level while lecturer says it will affect adversely because expectations of the company will increase and they will give same load of 5 days to be done in 4 days which says no additional work for the 5th day and leads to no additional job.
In terms of employee life, paragraph displays that they will be more free and can spend time with families with leisure whereas lecture shows that employees will loose interest towards the work and there is a risk of reducing quality of life. Promotions will be competitive and tough for four day week employees because it is obvious for a company to choose five days week employee to promote.
