The article supports the policy that allowing employees to work four days a week for four-fifths of their current salary by indicate that such policy will benefit to the employees, the companies, and the entire economy. The professor, however, disagrees with the passage by repudiate each reason made by the article.

First, the reading predicts that, by enact the new policy, companies will gain more profit because their employees who work for fewer hours will feel more energetic and, thus, will do fewer errors at work. Moreover, the operating cost of the firms will also not be raised, even if the firms hire more staff, due to the reduced salary of each individual. Nevertheless, the professor rejects this reason by state that the business will have to spend more expense for training, health benefit, and facilities cost which are not reduced accordingly to the fewer working hours, but increased correspondingly to the greater number of the employees.

Second, the passage assumes that there will be more available job because the business will have to hire more staff fulfilling the decreased working hours of each employees. As a result, the more available positions, the less unemployment rate. Nonetheless, the professor refuses such reasoning by assert that the companies might not provide more job positions due to the high cost of hiring as mention before. Therefore, to complete the same amount of work in four working days without hiring more people, the firms might simply request their employees to work overtime which will not have any benefit to the national economy.

Third, the article describes that the policy will allow employees to enhance the quality of their life by using their more free time to pursue their interested activities. The professor, however, denies such statement by argue that the policy will actually reduce the quality of life of those staff because the fewer working hours will limit the opportunity to improved job ability and, as a result, will delay the advance in career. Therefore, the employees might not gain as much benefit from the policy as expected in the article.
