TPO-18 - Integrated Writing Task In the 1950s Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida, started to die out. No one is sure exactly what caused the decline, but chances are good that if nothing is done, Torreya wi

The reading explains three possible ways of protecting Torreya taxifoha tree, however, the professor, in the lecture, states that these solutions are not satisfactory and refutes each of the author methods.

At first, the passage posits that reestablishing the torreya tree on it's previous original location where it has minor climate suitable for it's growth can help to thrive it's population. The professor confutes this point by saying that it is unlikely due to effect of large climate on micro-climate. She states that due to effect of global warming, the existence of the micro climate is becoming sparse, barely providing conducive environment for growth of Torreya.

Second, the reading claims that transferring torreya plantation, on the colder north location, may be another environment favorable of it's growth. On the other hand, the professor asserts that it may have negative impact on the original vegetation of the northern land. According to professor, similar experiment was conducted on Locus trees, and it thrive so copiously that it endangered the vegetation of northern land.

Third, the passage maintains that preserving it's seed on Research center is another promising method for the trees protection. The professor counter this point by explaining it may have serious impact of disease resisting capacity on those preserved seeds. We have came to know that research center cannot afford to hold all the species of Torreya tree and selecting particular species may not be successful because to become it disease resistant, it have to cross pollinate with other species.
