TPO-28 - Integrated Writing Task Robert E. Peary was a well-known adventurer and arctic explorer who in 1909 set out to reach the North Pole. When he returned from the expedition, he claimed to have reached the pole on April 7, 1909. This report made him

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss the three possible claims of Robert E.Peary, who argues that he reached the North Pole. The author avers that these arguments are strong enough to support his claim. The Professor points out that there is no solid evidence and no one is convincing.

First claim, the article mentions the committee, who conducted the investigatiion concluded that Peary indeed reached the Pole. The speaker casts doubt in this by explaining that it is right but not objected because Peary's friend directed the committee and this investigation was done only within two days, so it is not trustworthy and bias.

The second claim, the reading passage states that recent expedition made by Avery has proven his claim. The professor disagrees with that by saying that Avery carries less weight than the actual one and within two different weather conditions , so it is immpossible to provide evidence.

The third claim, the reading material claims the photographs and their shadow give us a picture of the situation of the North Pole that is perfect the actual position. The professor argues that by telling that the technique used to analyze the shadow is primitive and not precise. Besides, the photographs are blurry and fuzzy because of it were taken a 100 years ago
