The article discusses a interesting historical topic of migration of dinasors in search of food during the winters and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that none of the points seem convincing and opposes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading passage states that edmontosaur survive exclusively on plants and in winter there would be no plants growing in so they migrate. In contrast, the professor provides information that summer were hotter in artic then than they are today. He explains this weather would have helped in growing of large number of plants which are more than the consumption of edmontosaur and the remnants of these plants can be used by edmontosaur to feed on. Clearly a disparity exists between the article and the evidence provided by the professor. As a result we can safely assumes that edmontosaur would have not migrated for food.
Second, the article pushes forth the idea that edmontosaur lived in herd and migrated in herd and moving in herd coordinate their migration. However the classroom discussion contends that living in herd doesnt support the fact that migrate in herd. He explains that they might move in herd as it is to predate while being in herd. Moreover, they are safe being in herd. Consequently we can argue that staying in herd doesn't bolster the fact they migrate.
Third, the reading posits that as edmontosaur are capable of migrating long distances with high speed, it is easy for them to migrate. The professor refutes the point by explaining that not all edmontosaur are capable of running at high speeds. The exception is juvenile as they are young and are incapable of running at high speeds. The edmontosaur could not leave them as it is unsafe for them staying alone.
In summary, while both passage and discussion provide interesting information with regards to migration of edmontosaur, a significant amount of evidence supports that edmontosaur hadn't migrated because of the reasons given by the author. Therefore, the passage fails to justify the reasons given in support of migration of edmontosaur.
