The reading passage says some scientists believe that dinosaurs were endothermal animals and provides three reasons for support for this argument. In contrast, the professor refutes it and states that this argument cannot prove anything and the reasons are not supportive.
First, the reading explains that scientists have found dinosaur fossils in the polar regions. On the other hand, the professor says that this is not a good reason because, in the past, polar regions were much warmer than now then as a result, dinosaurs could easily live in these warm places. In addition, if these places were cold as much as polar regions the dinosaurs could migrate to warmer places or hibernate such as other reptiles. Therefore this reason is not true.
Second, the reading claims that between leg position and endothermy is a connection. But the professor states that the fact that underneath position of legs are not necessary for being endotherm. Because in some animals such as dinosaurs, the body is high weight and if the legs locate underneath, the body would have a problem.
Finally, the reading section states that in the endothermal animals, bone cells usually have Haversian canals. In contrast, the professor refutes this argument and states that in addition to Haversian canals, the bone cells of dinosaurs have growth rings. According to the professor, growth rings show periodic growth. It means that in the warm weather the animal has fast growth rate. And in the cold weather, the animal has slow growth rate. However, the endotherm animals have a fast growth rate in both warm and cold weather. That is why they do not show growth ring.
