TPO-46 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, medical information about patients traditionally has been recorded and stored on paper forms. However, there are efforts to persuade doctors to adopt electronic medical record systems in which informa

The reading states using electronic databases for medical record has more benefits then ‘’using paper-based record keeping’’. The speaker, however, tells us that using electronic databases is uncertain for some ways.
First, the author describes that paper records need an important amount of storage to keep. So, using electronic papers are able to save significant money by storing. The speaker says that paper records should not throw out because files have to use in emergence situations. With federals laws, signatures for legal papers are required. So, hospitals are required to pay storage.
Second, the reading says that, electronic records have a importance to reduce chance of medical mistakes because doctors usually do a handwriting mistakes and poor hand writing. However the speaker tells us that we should not eliminate paper records for poor hand writing by mistake because doctors still examine patients by paper with handwriting and office keep the documents even poor hand writing includes some mistakes.
Third, the reading states that doctors store a great amount of paper records in their room and this records have 1000 of patient’s data. If they keep data on computer it will be very easy to access by other doctors. However the lecturer says that it is not easy that seem because laws do not permit it because of privacy. If patients do not give a permission or block their medical records for any purpose, it will not make sense to store records on computer.
