tpo 49 - writing 1

How animals are able to migarate long distances is still unknown for scientists. The author believes a specific kind of animal, humpback whales, migrate by the help of the stars in the sky and asserts three reasons. However, the Lecturer cast doubts all reasons.

First, in contrast to the author idea that cognitive skills and intelligence have a correlation to each other, the lecturer thinks differently. The lecturer says there is no connection between them and elaborate this by explaining an example. Docks are considered as animals who have an average cognitive ability, while they are not intelligent. Those cognitive skills are somehow instinct. So the idea of using stars just because of being intelligent does not make sense.

Secondly, the lecturer rejects what is says in reading about the need of sending external object or forces for orienting in a straight direction. Also, he asserts humpback whales have some sort of biomagnetic ability in their mind help them to find their directions to migrate in a straight way.

Finally, sharks are an exceptional example of animals who do spy-hopping but do not migrate in a straight line. Sharks just pursue their prey and go wherever they can haunt. Therefore, the professor claims the use of spy-hopping as a reason is a pure speculation.
