In the reading passage, the writer contends that storing patients' medical records in electronic databases has several advantages over traditional paper-based record keeping; however, in the lecture, the professor completely refutes all the reading points by presenting some reasons and examples.

First of all, the writer takes the view that the use of electronic records can help reduce costs by saving money on storing and transferring medical records; on the other hand, the lecture rejects this notion by stating that doctors have to keep paper records as back up. In addition, doctors have to sign prescribes, so they have to use paper.

Moreover, the writer also claims that the medical record systems can preventing errors; conversely, the professor again is against this statement and declares that errors would not be reduced since an office staff of doctor has to interpret information which the doctor has written on paper and after that enters them to the computer; therefor, human errors would not be reduced.

In addition, the writer also indicates that the electronic medical records can greatly aid medical research by making it possible to gather large amount of data from patients' records; in contrast, the professor again takes issue with this point of view by stating that accessing to medical records is subject to privacy; hence, researchers have to still obtain a lot of permission, patients' permission included, in order to access to the information.
