Turtle excluder device

Essay topics:

Turtle excluder device

Here, the article and the lecture both are about turtle excluder device which is incorporated with the net to provide the passage for turtle to escape. The article claims that this device has been criticized for their usage for many reasons. In the lecture, the professor challenges the claim made by article with positive response against criticism.
To began with, the article avers that turtles get caught within the net rarely as once in month. So, TED cost is too much for them to use, to save one turtle. In the lecture, this specific explanation refuted by the professor, she thinks that it is true that turtle get caught rarely but there are thousands of boat in ocean. While considering about thousands of boat, more than thousands of turtle get caught every year. Apparently, this is needed to remark when these turtle spices are endangered which will not be able to recover.
Second, the article suggests that there are alternative methods to protect them besides using TEDs. With this method they can shorten the time limit for nets in underwater. the professor, however rebuts this by mentioning that government can not keep record of time for every single boats, specially in middle of ocean. It is easy for them to check with TEDs when the boat is leaving. So, this idea about release the turtle from the net before time would not be possible.
In the end, the article posits that TEDS are not that effective for larger species of endangered sea turtle. They can not escape from the net even if the nets are equipped with TEDs. In the lecture, the professor's position is that space needed for escape can be adjusted with modification of the TEDs features. Apart from this, he notes that once these devices detect the size of turtle they adjust the space and it will no longer problem.
