The great leader of Turks, Ataturk, explained his goal as upgrading the status of Turkey to the level of civilized countries. Although finding a common ground and reaching consensus have a value, pursuing an ideal is the main method to increase the welfare of a country. Hence, politicians should give priority to the pursuit of an ideal.
In the foundation of many countries, pace of the revolution is vital for achieving the desired level of success. If the targeted speed could not be reached, there is always a possibility that the opponents of new rulers would start a rebellion and overthrow new rulers. Moreover, trying to reach a consensus would enable the opponents to dissuade the populace about the reliability of the new political environment and would bring about unrest. For example, in Egypt there has been a steady unrest among the citizens since Muberek was killed. The political rivals could not agree on reasonable consensus and they started to accuse each other. These problems motivated the army of Egypt to destroy the current democracy and to become the dictator of the country. If the previous democratic government had reached the progress they planned, their chance to pursue their power and increase the welfare of the country would have been higher.
In addition, the pursuit of ideals might seem as the only way to reach desired development. There might be only few people in a country who have the necessary education and skills that is essential to comprehend the consequences and the benefits that revolutions would bring. For example, in the foundation of Turkey, Ataturk and his fellow friends planned to change the political, educational and economical system of the country. They planned to destroy monarchy and settle a new democratic country. However, the majority of the populace did not even know how to write and read in those times. Thus, endeavoring to reach a consensus was extremely hard. As a result, the revolutions were the only way to increase the level of Turkey.
Some people might claim that finding a common ground is also equally important to the pursuit of an ideal. Even though this idea has some merit, it ignores some essential points. Significant amount of time should be devoted in order to reach o consensus, however if this time is spent on the pursuit of ideals, then expected progress could be achieved considerably faster. For example, finding a common ground for a law which would boost the speed of investments to a country might be very time consuming. Governments might have to show great effort to persuade several other politicians, nongovernmental organizations and most importantly the public. Therefore, this process would frustrate the economic development of the country. As in the case of the example, endeavoring to find a common ground is more likely to hinder the development, hence the primary goal of a country should be the pursuit of ideals.
