“Well being of society enhance when many of its people question authority”
Can a society progress, if its citizen are reluctant to question the authority? That will be shirking the responsibilities which they hold as a citizen of the society. It is said that "Society suffers not because of action of bad people but because of silence good people".There are cases in history when government fall apart because of the lack of citizens silence on the authorities misdeeds.
Fall of USSR is best example of it, due to corruption and inefficiency which has grown over time has led to price rise and exorbitant increase rate of inflation, making it difficult for poor people to get food for daily living. Meanwhile, authorities were spending more on the cold war with the west. All that ended with the split of the country and fall of socialist regime. This drastic result occurred because of the silence of its people, who never questioned their authority for its wrong deed and the society never improved with time and leading to its catastrophic fall.
Unlike USSR, the tyrannical British rule of India which ended in 1947, which couldn't have possible without the people of India coming together and questioning the tyranny of the authority. The Indian people raised many freedom movement like non-cooperation movement, salt Satyagraha, quit India movement. All peacefully lead but clearly pointing to the mistakes of the foreign government, which lead to India independence on 15th august 1947, forming the democratic self rule. This country will become one of the top 5 economies in the world after 60 years, all this wouldn't have been possible without the people questioning their authority.
Even the rise of Hitler in Germany was also because the media, citizens and other civil authorities and citizens kept silence, which lead the whole world into the risk of world war II, losing more than 50 million lives and devastating aftermath. If citizen of Germany had questioned the Hitler authority, the fall wouldn't have happened.
Ultimately, from the bulk of the evidence, it can be concluded that silence of the people by not questioning the authority will only limit the enhancement of the society, where as question will improve the system and bring better prospects for the society.
