It is obvious that increasing the price of petrol is the easiest way to tackle traffic and pollution in the short run which is lead to reducing the number of cars on streets. The government can not overlook that traffic and pollution are two main problems that need to be solved by the best strategies for long term.
When the government increase the price of petrol, the people who use this fuel try to gain it by anyway even if the way was dangerous or bad because they need this fuel and moreover the other people try to abuse from this situation and they make black markets which some people sell petrol with huge price and people who need it have to purchase.
On the other hand, factories that produce cars with petrol fuel go to bankruptcy because people intend to buy these cars so these factories try to produce the other cars that consume the other kinds of fuels and are cheaper than those cars what used expensive fuel. It is clear that when these factories produce these cars with mass production methods, the traffic problem increase twice as huge as when the people use the other cars with petrol fuel and aggravate the problem of traffic in the long term.
I think when the government try to invest on public transportation and equip them by decent facilities and encourage the people use these public transportation little by little rate of users who use the public transportation increase which would not be happen if the government do not pay more attention to public transportation and why people do not fond to take the public transportation for their daily travel. This strategy lead to declining the amount of traffic which is absolutely cause to decrease pollution.
In conclusion, I think that increasing the price of petrol is not permanent way to decrease amount of traffic and the government must invest on public transportation and try to increase the level of aware of people to use this way which is lead to decreasing density of traffic and pollution.
