Given is the graph which illustrates the numbers of three different criminal incidents in Newport city from 2003 to 2012.
Overall, there is significant change in crime rates as the first rank of crime has switched from burglary to car theft during a nine-year period.
Beginning with almost 3,500 incidents, the burglary rate peaked to 3,800 times in 2004, continuously dropped to 2,600 times in 2006, and it reached to the lowest point at 1,100 times in 2008. Few years later, the burglary figure stayed below 1,500 incidents until the end of this period. Meanwhile, the number of car theft incidents started only 2,800 in 2003, remained fairly identical figures for two years, and it declined rapidly to approximately 2,100 in 2007. Subsequently, the car theft figure became the top position in this rank at 2,200 incidents around in 2006 by replacing the burglary figure. Continuing at 2,200 incidents from 2007 and 2009, the car theft slowly increased to over 2,700 incidents in 2012.
Lastly, the robbery graph is noticeably less fluctuation than others. The numbers were between 500 to 900 throughout this period, which were always at the last rank as well.
