The line chart indicates the changes in rates of crime in the center of Newport city between 2003 and 2012.
From 3400 incidents in 2004, the number of burglary incidents peaked at 3750 in 2004 before slipping deeply down to just about 1200 in 2008. Though the frequency of the crime recovered marginally in 2009, the figures were quite stable from there.
Though the number of car theft incidents reached its peak at 2800 in 2004, it was almost unchanged from 2003 to 2005. By 2006, the number suddenly hit its low at 2100 before gradually recovering to about 2007 in 2012.
The trend of the number of robbery incidents was the mildest one, always ranging between 500 and 1000. From about 600 incidents in 2003, it hit its highest point at about 850 in 2006 before steadily decreasing to the trough at 500 in 2008.
Overall, the number of burglary incidents had the wildest fluctuation while the number of the others just mildly fluctuated. In 2004, the figures for burglary and car theft reached their peaks. While the number of robbery incidents peaked by 2005, that of robbery incidents touched the lowest point in 2006. In 2008, the figures for both burglary and robbery fell to their own lows.
