The given chart demonstrates the consumption habits of residents in England and Wales. The survey was conducted in the period from 1918 to 2011 and measured by percentage.
In general, residents’ habits changed completely over the years. They love renting households more than owning them from 1918 to 1961. However, owning became more popular than renting from 1981 to 2011. Only in 1971 did owned and rented commodities had the same quantity at 50%.
The percentage of households in owned accommodation reached a peak at 69% in 2001 from the lowest point at 20% in 1981 and slightly declined to 64% in the next 10 years. A contrast tendency was shown in the figure of households in rented accommodation. It fell from 78% to 31% from 1981 to 2001, followed by an increase to 36% in 2011. There were 2 periods in which dramatic differences in the consumption habits of residents can be witnessed with above 20%: from 1918 to 1953 and from 1991 to 2011.
