It’s clear that there was a dramatic decrease can be seen in China over the four-year period, while America saw a significant growing trend at the same time. Russia’s figure remained at the lowest level during the whole time.
In 2004, around 27,500 students from China studying at European universities. However, the numbers saw a trend of a sharp fall and dropped by approximately 12,5000 people by 2008. In 2006, the figures were the same in both China and America, with nearly 18,000 students. Over the following two years, American applicants took over that of China and increased to a peak at 27,500 in 2008, the same as the Chinese data in 2004.
People from Japan, as the third largest group, were merely as half as the number of American in 2004 around 6,000. The data remained the same in the following year, and started to rise steadily until reaching to 10,000 in the year 2008. The number for Russia roughly stayed stable at the same level on average at 2,500 at all times, contributing the least proportion.
