The charts below give information about USA marriage and divorce rates between 1970 and 2000, and the marital status of adult America in two of the years.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given two bar charts show how many marriages and divorces in America, and the marital status of the whole states in a thirty-year period, from 1970 to 2000.
As can be seen from the graphs, people who got married were far more than those divorced in all the recorded years, but the gap between these two groups was narrowing. Also, while there were fewer people stepped into marriage throughout this period, those who remained single had been increasing.
In both 1970 and 1980, there were just 2.5 million marriages, but this number dipped to about 2.3 million and continued to drop, touching at 2 million in 2000, which was a 50,0000 decrease. Turning into divorces, the numbers in most of the recorded years were at around 1 million except 1980, which exceptionally reached almost 1.5 million.
For the marital status of adult Americans, most people were married in 1970 (70%), but there was a markable declining (over10%) in three decades. Within the same timescale, the proportions of singles and divorced couples saw a small increase (6% to 8%), whereas there were fewer Americans widowed.
