The charts below show the number of French adults whose parents spoke a French regional language to them when they were children and the number who speak a French regional languange to their own children
The proportion of mature French who communicate in five local languages with their parents during childhood and the adults continuing to speak mother tongues to their children are represented in the bar charts.
Overall, the proportion of the speakers using regional language tends to be rare than saying it regularly in a family. In any case, there is a shifting trend of the most favorable language in one descendant at a different time.
According to the first graph, Alsatian and Occitan language account as the greatest users daily and occasionally, and the figure of the latter is by far the highest with more than 1 million people. Also, Using the Breton language is more infrequent for French people than those who use as a family language, accounting 400 thousand and 200 thousand people respectively. Other figures, Creole and Corsican language, have a very small number of users in two categories.
Looking at the second chart, even though the Alsatian language is less popular spoken in the previous generation, it then appears as the most frequently used in mother-children communication at 400 thousand people. In fact, Occitan as family language only takes a quarter of people compared to the prior generation. However, the trend of the rest figures remains unchanged by the time.
