The charts below show what UK graduate and postgraduate students who did not go into full-time work did after leaving college in 2008.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar charts illustrate, besides full-time work, the other career paths of graduates and postgraduates in the UK in 2008. Overall, a considerable number of these students chose to continue their study, while a minimum portion of them selected to do the voluntary job.
First of all, in 2008, the career choices chose by both groups shared a similar trend and the number of graduates was approximately ten times higher than that of postgraduates in each category. Precisely, advanced study was favoured by the most graduate students in the UK, for which attracted 29,665 students. Those who sought part-time jobs or still unemployed had nearly identical patterns, with the number of 17,735 and 16,235 respectively. Only 3,500 graduates were committing themselves to volunteering, representing a very insignificant proportion in the total.
As for postgraduate students, further study remained the most popular choice as 2,725 students went to higher education in 2008. This was followed by students who were part-time employed (2,535), which were slightly less than the former option. Unemployed students accounted for about one-third of the total postgraduates with the number of 1,625. A least amount of students (345) took volunteer jobs after post-graduation.
