The figures five information about economic growth and household expenditure across a range of categories.
The line graph presents changes in economic growth whereas the pie charts analyze domestic spending for a range of items with 5-year intervals from 1995 to 2010.
Overall, it can seen that changes in economic development seemed to influence expenditure on a range of categories.
Firstly, from 1995 to 2000, the economy experienced a short initial rise to peak at the 2.5% mark in the first two years before fluctuating and ending at a comparable spot. While spending on clothing, entertainment, travel and other activities remained the same, food acquired a growth in household expenditure, reducing the budget for housing from nearly one third to just a little over one fourth.
In the next 5 years, economic growth fluctuated to a smaller degree and reached the all-time high at around 4.8% in 2005. This upward change correlated with the rise in spending on housing, clothing, entertaiment and travel while that on other activities remained the same and the figure for food was reduced to a little less than 25%.
Lastly, from 2005 to 2010, the economy suffered a net fall of 4 percent, with the lowest point being at -5% in 2008. Spending on essentialfood rose to 30% while the figures of less essential items such as clothing, entertainment and travel were all reduced.
