The following bar chart shows the different modes of transport used to travel to and from work in one European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000
The chart compares the use of different means of transport in a European city in three different years, from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, it is evident that the number of travellers using car increased while the number of people using bike and walking decreased.
In 1960, only 5% of people went to work by car. The proportion of people using bus and bike were 17% and 25% respectively. Walking was the most popular mode of transport which accounted for nearly 35% of travellers.
Afer 40 years, the number of people travelling by car rose up dramatically to more than 35% and became the most popular mean of transport in 2000. After reaching a peak of 25% in 1980, the percentage of travellers using bus fell down to 15%, lower than that of car. The number of people going to work by bike and on foot saw a steady decline to 5% anh 10% respectively. Bike was the least popular mean of transport in 2000.
