The line graph illustrates shifts in the number of tonnes of CO2 released per person each year in four nations from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, while the United Kingdom and Sweden's populations tend to emit less and less carbon dioxide, Italy and Portugal saw an opposite trend. In addition, the figure for this phenomenon is highest in the UK throughout the year, compared to other countries.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, in 1967, approximately 11 metric tonnes of CO2 per person were witnessed in the UK, followed by Sweden, at 8,5 tonnes. The quantity of tonnes in Italy and Portugal was 4 tonnes and more than 1 tonne respectively. There was a sharp decrease in the average CO2 emissions per person in the UK to 9 tonnes in 2007.
The rest of the nations grew dramatically in the year 1977. Sweden jumped enormously from 8,5 tonnes to more than 10 tonnes in ten years but later fell significantly to around 5 tonnes in 2007. There was a rapid growth to nearly 8 tonnes in average CO2 emissions per people in Italy, surpassing Sweden at the later of the year 1987. Finally, Portugal increased considerably to 5,5 tonnes in 2007.
