The graph below shows difference sources of air pollutants in the UK from 1990 to 2005.
The line chart illustrates three different categories which accounted for air pollutants (million tonnes), in the UK, from 1990 to 2005.
Overall, the total amount of air pollutants fell quickly over the period. Besides, the number of the industry was by far the most significant dropped in this time.
There was a dramatic decrease in the total air pollutants from 7 (1990) to 4 million tonnes (1999). Between 1999 and 2005, this figure continuously declined from 4 to just over 3 million tonnes. By contrast, the number of air pollutants in transport fluctuated slightly around 1 million tonnes over sixteen years.
The figure of air pollutants in industry reduced suddenly from 5.5 (1990) to 3 million tonnes (1996). In the next 10 years, this number gradually fell to 2 million tonnes which were double the figure for transport in 2005. Besides, the air pollutants of households contributed 0.8 million tonnes at the beginning of this time. Although this number varied over the period, it always remained below 1 million tonnes in the whole time.
