In general, it is evident that people in the USA had a tendency to live in cities while the opposite was true for India. In addition, the percentage of population in cities in China increased rapidly between 1990 and 2010.
As can be seen from the graph, with regards to the figure for cities’ population in the USA, it began at 70%, was higher than three other countries. This figure rose gradually and is predicted to hit the highest point in 2030, at 90%. Similarly, the period from 1970 to 2000 saw a considerable climb in the percentage of residents living in Korea’s cities between 40% and 80%, before experiencing a minimal rise to under 90%. It is expected that the rate will reach 90% in 2030.
Looking at the graph in more detail, the figure for individuals in China and India in 1970 was similar, hovering at 20%. The proportion of cities’ citizens in China remained stable until 1980 while in India, the figure remained flat to 1990. Regarding India, there was a growth to approximately 33% in 2000, before predicting to rise to under 40% in 2030. Meanwhile, there was a marked climb to 60% in 2010 in the proportion of cities’ people in China, which is forecasted to increase steadily to 66% in 2030.
