The graph shows three curves relating to proportion of elderly people from age 65 and over in three countries (Japan, Sweden, USA) between 1940 to 2040.
At the beginning of 1940, the proportion of elderly people stood only between 5% to approximately 10% in three countries and USA had the first rank by dedicating 10% to itself. However, as graph shows at the end of the 2040, the number of aged will be around 25%, and at that time Japan will have the first rank in terms of aged society, Sweden will have the second place and USA will stay at third place.
Overall, between 1960 and 2030 there is a tremendous difference among Japan and two other countries in population proportion but Japan will have an abrupt increase in elderly population after 2030, and will even catch the first position in 2040. Also, there are a marginal differences between Sweden and USA from 1940 to 1998 but Japan had a few aged people in comparison with two other countries not only between 1940 and 1998 but also this condition used to continue until almost the year 2005.
