The graph shows the number of marriages and divorces in the UK between 1975 and 2000

The line graph provides information about the number of marriages and divorces in the UK from 1975 to 2000.
Overall, while the number of 1st marriages saw a declining trend, the two remaining were 2nd marriages and divorces experienced slight increases in number. Therefore, the total marriages was high in early years and then decreased gradually in the later years. And in the end, the total marriages witnessed a slight rise in number.
Starting at about 500 in 1975, the total was higher than the beginning numbers of 1st marriages, it was just around 330. Between 1975 to 1985, the total marriages increased significantly in the number from about 500 to around 620. Likewise, the 1st marriages saw a considerable growth in the number from about 330 to 400 in the same period of years. In 1985 to 1990, there was a steady trend in the number of total marriages. Similarly, the 1st marriages experienced the same trend in the same years. From 1990 to 2000 witnessed a slight fall in the number of total marriages and then rose a little bit in the end. In contrast, the number of 1st marriages experienced a significant decline in number from 400 to 310 in the same period.
The initial number of 2nd marriages was at about 150 and also higher than the starting point of divorces, it was about 80, the lowest among the three others. Between 1975 to 1985, the number of 2nd marriages saw a slight climb in number from about 150 to 220. Similarity, the number of divorces also witnessed a significant increase in number in the same period. Between 1985 to 1995, the number of 2nd marriages fell moderately in number to about 205. By contrast, there was a continuous surge in the number of divorces and also overtook 2nd marriages, it was about 230 in 1995. And the period from 1995 to 2000 both 2nd marriages and divorces experienced an increased trend in number.
