Overall, oil consumption in China increased steadily and exceeded production within the study. There was also minimal increase in production within the given period (1982 to 2006).
In the first year, 1982, oil production was at a little over 2 million barrels per day. And by the year 1986, oil production in China stood at exactly 3 million barrels per day. This figure remained the same till the end of 1994. By 1998, oil production has exceeded 3 million barrels per day, but it was still under 4 million barrels. Although noticeable increase was seen in oil production in the remaining year, 4 million barrels output was not achieved.
On the other hand, oil consumption was around 2 million barrels from the first year until 1990. Afterwards, there was a rise in oil consumption throughout the given period (oil consumption stood at over 6 million barrels per day in the final year, about two times that of production).
