The table illustrates the how much the residents spent on different types of necessaries in five nations in 2002.
According to the table, food, drinks or tobacco were the most necessary for the consumers among all countries, in terms of the expenditure spent. In particular, the residents of Turkey spent 32.14% of overall expenditure in buying foods/drinks/tobacco, which was the highest among the countries. The proportion spent by Ireland (at 28.91%) was slightly less than that of Turkey, while the remainders spent almost 16%-17% of expenditure to buy foods/drinks/tobacco.
By contrast, leisure/education contributed the least percentage of expenditure, with only less than 5% spent by each of the nations. Turkey spent the most expenditure at 4.35%, while Spain spent the least at 1.98%, and the others spent around 2%-3% of expenditure. Meanwhile, the expenditure spent on clothing/footwear by Ireland, Spain, Sweden and Turkey was alike at 5% to 6%, but the expenditure spent by Italy was significantly higher at 9%.
Overall, it is apparent that the residents in all nations spent the most on the food/drinks/tobacco, while the expenditure on leisure/education was the least.
