The two given tables provide data about how much money was spent on buying coffee and bananas labeled Fairtrade in five countries in Europe over five years from 1999 to 2004.
As can be seen from the sales data of coffee, the figure increased sharply for almost all countries, except for Sweden. While in the amount of money spent on bananas, Switzerland had a more significant growth than any other country.
Looking at coffee’s turnover, Switzerland earned 3 million euro from selling this commodity in 1999, followed by around 1.5 and 1.8 million euro in the UK and Denmark, respectively. The lowest figure was seen in Sweden at 0.8 million. After five years, the UK became the highest income from purchasing coffee, reaching 15 million euros. The earnings of other countries climbed by about 0.2 to 3 million only.
Regarding banana sales, the UK always ranked top, recording 20 million in 1999 and 47 million euros in 2004, which increased threefold after five years. Belgium also experienced a growth in its sales from 1.7 to 4 million euro while Switzerland decreased marginally to 5.5 million in 2004. Nonetheless, the data for Sweden witnessed a hover at 1 million in both years, and Denmark has shown a relative fall to 0.9 million euros through five years.
