Thanks to the development of communication technologies, nowadays people can gain massive amounts of information in a short period. A variety of different new sources have created on TV, the Internet and social media. Since news plays a crucial part in our daily life, it is important to choose them wisely. In my point of view, it will be better to read news provided by people with different perspective.
First of all, information from a variety of sources reveals the truth more accurately. Since different news resources give a wide range of perspectives, it gives us a whole picture of an event. While gathering information about political or economic news, it is especially important to pay attention to news from different medias. For example, recent research shows that around forty percent of political news are biased because they include too much personal opinions rather than facts. Moreover, the biased news reports are often purposely designed to mislead the general public. Furthermore, the news are created in order to make people vote for specific political parties.
Secondly, gaining information from different sources expands one’s horizon. Since perspective is the way individuals see the world, which is shaped by experiences, value and the assumption they bring into the situation, reading news from perspectives give us meaningful opportunities to reflect the blind spots we have. Take my own experience for example, I was used to reading technology news from one single company. One day, I accidentally saw a sociology magazine which introduces some development of technology in sociology fields. It wasn’t until that day did I realize there can be a strong connection between social science and computer science. This interesting experience reminds me the importance of expanding my horizon by reading various kinds of materials.
Finally, it is undeniable that news and media agencies are widespread. In this high speed, high-tech world it is significantly important to be capable of digesting various information more efficiently. Reading news from different sources sharpen up our skills to organize a wide range of information. Generally, people find it difficult to accept disparate opinions because stepping out of their comfort zone can be painstaking. However, it is significantly important to learn to digest statements from different points of view because it makes us learn how to respect other’s opinions.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that gathering news from different sources is important. This is because it gives us meaningful opportunities to better connecting the world, and it also broadens our horizon. Furthermore, reading different information help us learn to respect to others and can also help us leave our comfort zone.
