Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
People who develop many different skills are more successful than people who focus on one skill only.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
In the modern era, people's lives have become more complex than before. As a result, the necessity of developing many skills has raised a lot of debate among people. Some may hold the opinion that it is really awkward to remain in an excellent standard in different skills. Thus, they prefer to concentrate on one particular skill and learn all the different aspects it represents. However, other people may take the opposite viewpoint and believe that developing more than just one skill can help us be competent enough as the labor market is changing frequently. I personally incline toward the latter opinion. In the following paragraphs, I will elaborate on my viewpoint through some notable reasons.
My first reason and maybe the most important one is that as I have mentioned, life is quite complicated today and we cannot stay successful by learning only one particular skill. By introducing new technology, a market can completely collapse and another one may replace it. It is likely that a few years later, for example, robots serve many functions people do today, Thus, many people may lose their jobs and they should essentially look for menial jobs to survive. In my opinion, mastering many skills gives us the opportunity to have more chances to make money out of such an elaborate labor market. It allows people to adapt easily to different circumstances and make good decisions in the case of any changes in their environment. If we do not anticipate these possible changes, they will pose a serious threat to our life.
My second reason is that people who have learned many skills are generally who are willing to accept risks in their lives. They are eager to deal with challenges and have a positive attitude towards changes. Over time, this will inculcate a sense of self-confidence in them, which is directly related to their productivity and can boost their performance compared to those who prefer to continue with only one skill. Not only does mastering many skills and abilities can directly make people adaptable to the unstable nature of the labor market, but also it raises their self-confidence, which is a fundamental key to success.
Lastly, people who have many skills can impress other people too. When other people see someone versatile who is able to handle various challenges in different areas, they will trust them easily. Employees with many skills are among the sought-after ones wanted by many employers, who are willing to hire and retain them at any cost.
In summary, based on the aforementioned arguments, there are many reasons that convince me to support the idea of developing many skills to remain successful. Some reasons are mentioned above. However, that was like a story in a nutshell. Actually, there are other ideas and examples challenging this claim, which are not mentioned above. All in all, I firmly believe that nowadays people need to learn many skills to improve their performance.
